More resources for scholarships
SGOone is designed to make it inexpensive to start, operate, and scale an SGO so more resources remain focused on scholarships.
The Founding Cohort is intended to reduce—and where possible help eliminate—startup and early operating costs for new SGOs. Support depends on funding, selection, and final program terms; cost elimination is not guaranteed.

Start small. Grow with purpose.
Paid plan prices shown already include 50% off the base subscription for the first year. Add-ons, additional users, and usage fees are not discounted.

Why this approach? Explore the SGOone Difference and our commitment to independent, mission-led organizations.
Choose the support you need
For committed founders who want hands-on branding, website and launch preparation, explore optional SGO Launch Services, from $299. These are separate from software subscriptions and the program configuration assistance below. They are not required to start an SGO.
Plan the starting line
Basic gives an organizer a free place to begin. Formation expenses are separate: state filing fees, tax-exemption applications, and any professional help the organization chooses.
IRS application fees are currently $600 for Form 1023 or $275 for Form 1023-EZ when eligible. State fees vary. Budget separately for initial policies, banking, insurance, and any setup assistance.

These illustrations allocate 90% of annual donations to scholarships and 10% to maximum modeled operating capacity, informed by §25F's requirement to spend at least 90% of relevant SGO income on scholarships.
90% scholarship distributions · 10% maximum modeled operating capacity
SGOone, processing, salaries, payroll taxes, insurance, accounting, legal/compliance, fundraising, and administration all fit inside the modeled 10%. This is not a rule that each donation must immediately be split 90/10. Actual income, dedicated-account treatment, timing, and applicable guidance determine the legal calculation. The October 2026 proposal uses cash-basis income and paid scholarships, with spending through the following taxable year and special account-level rules for qualifying organizations. Read the proposed measurement rules.
Charged directly to the SGO, without markup by SGOone, and separate from SGOone's $1 incoming/outgoing fee. Donors may voluntarily add an amount to help cover estimated processing costs.
Illustrative mix: 50% domestic card / 50% ACH Direct Debit, by donation volume and transaction count. Domestic card: 2.9% + $0.30 per successful transaction. Standard ACH Direct Debit: 0.8%, capped at $5 per successful transaction. These are planning assumptions, not guaranteed rates. We retain 70% donor coverage and 30% absorbed by the SGO, assuming equal average gifts and the same payment mix across both groups.
Card vs. ACH processing. Cards generally cost more to process; capped ACH fees can be significantly lower for larger donations. SGOs may benefit from making ACH easy to use and encouraging it when appropriate, especially for larger contributions.
For a $1,700 contribution: approximately $49.60 by domestic card versus $5.00 by standard ACH Direct Debit under these assumptions.
Actual costs vary with payment-method mix, transaction size, Stripe pricing, optional services/features, and future pricing changes. Donation totals exclude fee-cover additions; the estimate does not gross up fees on those additions. Refunds, disputes, and outgoing processing costs may differ. No outgoing processor fee is assumed; add any applicable fee to the budget. Fee-cover amounts require appropriate accounting and are not assumed to qualify for a donor tax credit.
The 99% Efficiency Goal
Our goal is to help independent Scholarship Granting Organizations retain at least 99% of the funds they raise after SGOone's standard platform fees. And we want that efficiency to improve as organizations grow.
Built to be affordable from the beginning. Designed to become even more cost-efficient as you grow.
SGOone's transaction pricing is based on the number of transactions, not a percentage of donation dollars. Larger donation totals don't automatically result in proportionally larger technology fees. Fixed-dollar transaction fees may represent a smaller share of contributions depending on average donation sizes, disbursements and subscription choices; a higher fundraising total alone does not guarantee a lower fee percentage.
One calculation method: 12 months of the first-year subscription, additional users and selected add-ons, plus $1.00 per incoming donation and outgoing scholarship disbursement. Each donor makes one donation; each scholarship has one disbursement. The model allocates 90% of donations to scholarships solely to set the average disbursement, not to determine legal compliance. No cohort subsidy is assumed. The cards show every modeled SGOone charge, including the selected optional services.

The $5 million illustration approaches 99.9% remaining after modeled SGOone fees. That is a possibility under these assumptions, not a guaranteed outcome. Compared with the $675,000 illustration, it holds average gift size, average scholarship, plan, users and add-ons constant, spreading the fixed subscription cost across more contributions.
The larger your impact becomes, the smaller the relative cost of your technology can become.
Under IRC §25F, qualifying SGOs are subject to a minimum 90% scholarship expenditure requirement, calculated under applicable statutory and regulatory rules. This is not an automatic 90/10 split of each donation. Review the requirement and proposed measurement rules.
We aim to leave at least 99% of donations available to the organization after standard SGOone platform fees under representative scenarios. This is a technology-cost objective, not a federal compliance standard or a promise that 99% will be awarded as scholarships.
Different measurements, different purposes. Remaining after SGOone fees excludes third-party payment processing, staffing and administration, legal, accounting and compliance expenses, optional services outside the modeled pricing, and other organizational costs. The 99% goal is not an unconditional guarantee. Actual percentages vary with usage, subscriptions, optional services and transaction patterns; it does not mean 99% of administrative work is automated.
Percentages use unrounded costs and are displayed to at most four decimal places. Payments remain simulated; no real money moves through the Workbench. Paid-plan availability and preliminary pricing conditions above still apply.
Four sizes. One scholarship mission.
First-year annual operating illustrations—not quotes or compensation recommendations. Each assumes one donation per donor and one disbursement per scholarship, serving at least 10 eligible students across more than one school.

Large SGO

$109.00/month first year for the plan, users, and add-ons ($1,308.00/year), plus $2,400.00 in annual incoming/outgoing fees.
Regular pricing: $158.00/month; $4,296.00/year including the same activity fees. Additional SMS and optional setup are excluded. Remaining after SGOone fees excludes processing and all other organizational expenses; it is not a scholarship-distribution percentage.
Two full-time roles averaging $75,000; benefits and specialist support need separate planning.
Staffing is deliberately lean: small organizations rely on volunteers; paid hours must match actual workload. Payroll taxes use a 10% planning reserve, not a statutory rate. Insurance, professional services, and other costs are illustrative allowances, not market quotes. Employee benefits, startup filings, optional $299 setup, excess SMS, and any additional payment charges must be funded from the cushion or a revised budget. No cohort assistance is assumed.
A compelling reason to give
Eligible donors may be able to reduce their federal income tax liability dollar-for-dollar for qualified contributions, up to the applicable federal limit.
A federal credit of up to $1,700 per individual taxpayer annually can make qualified giving more attainable. The October 2026 proposal allows up to $3,400 combined for eligible spouses filing jointly. It is not a guaranteed refund; tax liability, eligibility, and other limits matter.
A meaningful fundraising story paired with transparent costs. The examples represent 36, 148, 442, and 1,765 maximum-credit-equivalent contributions—not a prediction that every donor gives $1,700.
Scholarship resources can support eligible educational opportunities while the SGO documents eligibility, awards, and qualified expenses.
The federal program applies to tax years ending after December 31, 2026, in participating states with listed SGOs. State credits reduce the federal credit; the same credited contribution cannot also receive a federal charitable deduction. Unused credits may have limited carryforward treatment. Donors should review their own circumstances with a qualified adviser.
These examples are illustrative and are not legal, tax, or accounting advice. A 90/10 budget alone does not establish SGO qualification. Review the October 2026 temporary and proposed rules and applicable state procedures. Proposed spending and audit provisions are not final; portal and filing instructions still need confirmation.
